“Sacrifice Zones” refer to areas and communities that disproportionately endure the harmful effects of environmental pollution, hazards, and other detrimental impacts, often as a result of industrial or developmental activities. These zones typically host clusters of industrial sites, such as factories and waste disposal facilities, which lead to severe environmental degradation and serious health consequences for local residents.

At its core, a park is meant to be a place of leisure and relaxation, a respite from the hustle and bustle of urban life.

However, in sacrifice zones, there is often minimal regulation or enforcement of environmental protections, resulting in unchecked pollution of air, water, and soil. Residents of these areas face heightened health risks, including respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, alongside other conditions linked to exposure to pollutants and toxic materials. Simply living in these environments increases health vulnerabilities, such as asthma and diabetes, putting residents in constant danger.

Our project seeks to highlight the neglect, danger, and marginalization experienced by communities impacted by sacrifice zones. Through taking the form of a local park and immersing visitors with various mediums of art, the project amplifies voices impacted and sheds a light on the challenges faced by residents of these areas.
